To get the esm's not to automatically load, delete the .nam files in the data folder.
If you are using powerup like I do, use the plugin version of powerup fork, and then also install the error handling plugin. You'll have to set up the error handler by noting the address of the common errors and adjusting the ini file to suppress them.
