Anyone bought Fallout Trilogy(F1/f2/Tactics) via steam?

Post by TsurudaHimeko » Tue Dec 23, 2014 9:01 am

If those classics are working well in W7, I would like to buy 'em, since I enjoyed some classic masterpieces such as HoMM2,3,4, Age of Empires 1, Diablo 1(Heck yea story), Rainbow six 1, ...blah blah blah I might enjoy classic fallout titles as well, although graphics are unfamiliar compared to HoMM2 and D1....

As far as I know are the classics know updated on Steam (since Bethesda has taken over the distribution for them) and should run well on Windows 7. The GOG versions are (sadly not available anymore for buying). If not you can find on NMA the needed patches to get rid of the graphic bug.

I have them all on disc so no need for steam versions here, unless they have been recompiled for 32 bit OS's which I doubt, probably using dosbox.

Yeah I played through both F1

Yeah I played through both F1 and F2 using the Steam versions.  If you plan on playing them, get the Fallout FIXT mod for F1, which will update the screen resolutions and so forth, as well as fix many bugs.

For F2, get the Fallout 2 Restoration Project mod, which likewise fixes numerous bugs and issues and allows for higher resolutions.

I would NOT recommend playing either game without those respective mods.  Both mods do support the Steam versions and are super easy to install.

The only other mod I recommend for Fallout 2 is the 'Miria for Real' mod, which fixes a possible party member so that they have the full range of skills just like any other party member.

You'll like them. Fallout 1

You'll like them. Fallout 1 takes a much more serious approach to the story telling, it's a gritty world that is very unforgiving and is much like Morrowind in that respect. Fallout 2 is more like a monty python show in the fallout universe, I like comedy so I LOVED fallout 2.

Both take a while to really get going, Fallout 2 especially. But when you get guns (at least for me, this was the turning point) things start getting a lot more fun.

Like any old game though, it's clunky, ugly, dated and makes references to the 80s and 90s. But if you can work with that, they are pretty much pure gold and I still sink time into them every so often. Like Therm said though, get the patches, makes the game a lot better. I don't play with them, but that's because I played them on a windows 98 computer and didn't 'need' the graphics patches. Have fun!

I had Fallout 1 and 2 discs but couldn't get nostalgic enough to play them again after being spoiled by FO3 and NV, and probably that will increase with FO4.

I never played Tactics and really never wanted to.

When I was searching for the Fallout trilogy in the steam account and was going to buy it suddenly causing some problem. My browser chrome keeps crashing [/url] which suddenly stopped responding and then crashed.
