Rise's Reading is Learning Project 3.3

Hurray for memes that are as old as this mod

This is an updated version from my old mod made all the way back in 2013.

This mod's aim is to replace most of the ingame pre-war books and skill magazines with (mostly) classic real-life ones. This mod also retextures the skill books and other books that just had generic textures.

Another feature of this mod is the option of using the character's Luck Attribute to automatically replace books with better ones. This means that some destroyed/burned books could change into pre-war books, pre-war books could change to skill books or skill magazines, etc.
The higher the Luck value is, the bigger the chance of getting a "better" book. This chance is customizable using the MCM menu.
This is optional and can be disabled/enabled in the MCM menu. The options are enabled by default. If you don't want to use them, you should disable them as soon as possible.

Some books were hand-placed on the world, where it would make sense for them to be. You can still randomly find these books, they are not unique.

Pre-war Books:
There are 188 new pre-war books added by this mod:

Burned and Ruined Books:
I added 12 new burned/ruined books with custom textures:

Unique Books:
Unique books that had generic textures were given unique textures:

Magazine Covers:
I made ten magazines for each skill (which adds variety, but it has the downside of if you for example collect several for Unarmed that are different you will get that many items in your inventory called "The Ring" and not stack, which might clog your inventory space):

A Couple of Notes:
One thing that might make some people dislike this mod is that the new books are mostly pristine. Players might prefer their books to look more weathered.
I decided to not edit the book textures to make them look older/used for two main reasons. The first was that it's a lot of work to edit almost two hundred textures to add damage and/or wear and tear (and I never have much time for modding anymore), the second is that it would make it even harder for players to be able to identify pre-war books from the destroyed/burned ones (which is already a problem even with the more pristine books).

Another thing that some people might not like is the "normal maps" (bump/dent depth effects) on some books/magazines. This can easily be "fixed" by going into this mod's texture folders, finding the files that have "_n" (without quotes) at the end of their name and deleting the ones you don't like.

I RECOMMEND USING MCM WITH THIS MOD:
The Mod Configuration Menu
So you can configure the randomizer system to whatever you want it to do.

If you find any bugs or problems, please report them here. I will try to fix them as soon as possible. :D

Special Thanks:
  • RoyBatty for fixing a game-breaking bug in the 3.3 version.
  • Aconagent1 (for teaching me how to make my own texture sets and apply them to the books using GECK.)
  • JaxFirehart (for the amazing Randomizer System he built for this mod)
  • The 3rd Type (for his very useful pipboy icon making tutorial)
  • Chucksteel, Gribbleshnibit8, Sesom, TrickyVein (for all the help and sharing of knowledge they did for me)
  • CDTalmas for telling me how to fix Scribe Yearling not accept all the pre-war books
  • Lydia of the Wastes and several others that helped me with a list of books
  • Bethesda and Obsidian for the great Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas games and all of its DLC's
  • All the artists and publishers of the books and magazines I used to make this mod for their great cover art
  • And everyone else that I am sure I forgot to mention

I just noticed that this thread was still on the TTW 3.2 mod releases section  .
I just moved it to the 3.3 section  .

I love it when mods like these are brought back out of retirement. Just a little heads up though. Had a quick look and it's a missing a few fixes from YUPTTW.esm, including the "NVDLC04GenericPerkQuestSCRIPT" script.

Yep, YUPTTW will be retired in the future. So I wanted to go through all of the perk changes (relevant to my mod) in YUPTTW and see if any needs to be "removed" before I added them to my mod. But I ran out of time and forgot to do it.

Thanks for the heads-up. ;)

Was getting crashes walking towards SDMart from Megaton. Have the skill book scanner and I noticed it was giving me notification that there was a skillbook nearby (I think the abandoned farm). I think this mod was trying to do something with it. Anyhoo I took this mod out and things worked fine.

I have been using it for hours and I haven't had any issues (it is true that I updated the script that was conflicting with YUPTTW to implement the changes). In addition, I am also using it with the New Vegas Library Project https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/74148 (which needs another patch to make them compatible since this mod replaces all pre war books with new models that do now inject the scripts). So I do not think this mod should be the culprit of any stability issues (I also have more than 400 mods running flawleusly after hours of compatiblity checks and fixing).

The instability is a known issue of the Baka books mod.

Hey Darkaxt, fellow lover of literature here, I was wondering if you would be willing to post those updated scripts for YUP and that patch for The New Vegas Library Project you spoke of? As for the latter, I absolutely love that mod and now that I am seeing this great looking mod here it would be amazing to have them working together. I'd give it a shot myself but besides doing insane overtime as of late, I am still in the process of remaking my current list to play 3.3 finally.
(I only just noticed a few days ago that the update was out much to my chagrin and I've only just got around to getting stuff downloaded, only able to mess with games and stuff at night most of the time so it's quite slow going)
Your help or consideration would be much appreciated, though thank you either way for your time and thanks to Risewild of course for his work on this lovely looking mod that regardless of a patch, I will be giving a try.

Using this mod for my current TTW playthrough and my god, is this mod so good.

It actually encourages me to go look through bookshelves and rummage around to find the prewar books instead of givinga cursory glance, and the texturing of each of the books is so damn good. This is a must have mod imo and should be added to the WSG

Great Job Risewild!
I tried putting a image of Joshua Graham saying "We cant expect God to do all the work" with glowing eyes here but idk how to do html so pretend that this is here lmao.
