Any good mods that focus on the capital wasteland?

Post by Azhurai » Wed Mar 23, 2022 6:09 am

I'm wondering if anyone can suggest a good couple mods that'll add a lot more things to do in the CW, and also upgrade the looks?

A few of mods to add to the Capital Wasteland that I have had good luck with are made by one of the TTW crew, RoyBatty. They are "TTW A Trail of Crumbs", "TTW Another Interior Mod", and for a positive karma playthrough "TTW The Regulators". All work well on a low-end system, are easy to install, are updated for v3.3 and being done by Roy, are "supported" to a professional degree. All are mentioned on this site and available on nexusmods. All work well together, so there is no need to pick and choose among 2 or 3 that sound appealing.

For upgrading the look of the game - both in D.C. and Mojave - you can easily use a cleaned and merged version of NMC's Texture packs. The process of doing this is spelled out on this site at viewtopic.php?f=55&t=4205 and is simple enough that even I can do it! Don't let the fact that there are 19 steps to it scare you off - it is pretty clearly laid out. The one thing to make sure about is that the script that you apply runs properly. You get a small black screen (I'm sure there is a real name for that screen, but...) that shows it (the script) running through the multitude of files after steps 7, 10, and 13 (for an optional NMC file). It only takes a second or two to run and can be missed if you aren't paying close attention. Pay attention, it is really the only thing that can go wrong (assuming you can follow the clear instructions) based on my experience.
If you are familiar with NMC's Texture Pack (for either FNV or FO3) you should know what to expect. It is one of most popular mods for both games on nexus and you are unlikely to have a "new" problem that hasn't already been solved by someone!

There are many mods listed on this site that may fit your needs. I only am recommending these as they are both well-established and supported by the TTW gang, and are mods that I have personally used to my great enjoyment.

A couple more that I am currently using for the first time are Two Wasteland Redesigned - TTW - Project Beauty and NVR2 https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/73667
and Simple Natural Weathers TTW https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/75624 which improve the appearances of the NPCs in the game (the site shows the differences for many of them) and adds 'weather" (rain) to the FO3 side of things (not sure about the Mojave side and how that works) respectively. The weather one really seems to make the colors "pop" and it has made this playthrough the best looking (in a general sense) game I have ever played of Fallout. Both are simple to install - read pages for dependencies for each (I think each have 'optional' dependency(ies) and I recommend both of the ones mentioned on the Simple Natural Weathers page. They work very well together with no real noticeable performance hit, especially considering the improved look that both of those mods provide. Both of these are TTW v3.3 compatible and I love them both!

I hope this sets you on your way. If you have any (simple) questions on this that aren't answered elsewhere, don't hesitate to ask. This 'community' is very helpful and generally pretty good at sniffing out any problems!
